Thailand Imports

The level of the Thailand imports in 2009 was lower than in 2008; the import volume was of $157.3 billion in 2008 compared with $131.5 billion one year later.

The basic imported products are: fuel, capital goods, consumer goods and raw materials and intermediate goods. In 2009, the important

Thai imports partners were: Singapore with 4.3%, Japan with 18.7%, South Korea with 4.1%, China with 12.7%, the United States with 6.3%, Malaysia with 6.4% and the UAE with 5%.

At the end of 2008, the structure of the imports was represented by petroleum with 16.9%, industrial machinery with 8.3%, steel and iron products with 7.7%, chemical products with 7%, electric machinery,

 

electronics with 6%, electric panels with 5.1%, gold and silver jewellery with 4.9%, computers, components for computers and accessories with 4.3%. Comparing with the end of 2007, there were increases of the imports, especially at gold and silver jewellery with 53.4%, steel and iron, metallic products with 37.5%, petroleum with 33.4%, chemical products with 21.5%,

industrial machinery with 18%, electronics with 11.3% and computers and accessories with 3.3%.

There were imports decreases recorded, at electric circuits and panels with 7.4%. The Thailand imports from the United States in 2006 were represented by the following categories of products with the highest values: plastic materials - $203.4 million (with 13.2 more than in 2005), semiconductors - $1.4 million (with 7.7 lesser than in 2005), computer accessories - $787 million (with 12.7% more than in 2005), civilian aircraft - $899.3 million (with 11% more than one year before), chemical products - $160.4 million

 

(with 27.5% more than in 2005), telecommunication equipment - $259.7 million (with 35% lesser than one year before), measuring, control and testing instruments - $177.2 million, industrial machines - $257 million, petroleum products – $172 million and electric apparatus - $204 million (with 0.8 more than on 2005).

 

The fastest growing Thailand imports from the United Sates of America in 2006 were: non metallic minerals - $10.4 million (with 81.3 % more than in 2005), civilian aircraft - $899.4 million (with 20% more than in 2005), accessories and generators - $65.6 million (more with 81 than with one year before),

steel mill and iron products - $11.9 million (more with 105% than in 2005) and elements for the military equipment - $51 million (with 120% more than in 2005). Next is a list of the Thailand imports from the United States in 2008, with the fast growing of them: rice - $5.8 million (with 35% more than in 2007),

non farm tractors - $5.4 million (with 300% more than in 2007), fuel oil - $19 million (with 35% more than with one year before), tanks, artillery, missiles and guns - $19. 3 million (with more than 230% than in 2007), armoured vehicles and military trucks - $1.7 million, glass including sheets and plates - $12.2 million, military footwear and apparel - $13.5 million, specialized mining equipment - $3.2 million, unmanufactured goods for the agricultural industry - $49.8 million.
